Mugwort Fuel for the Bee Smoker
Finely ground and dried leaves and flowers of Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) and Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) are compressed into a small cylinder with a diameter of 1.8 cm and a height of 2.7 cm.
By using Mugwort smoke, you can effectively contribute to the prevention and treatment of Nosema apis. Mugwort smoke disinfects the hive and the bees themselves, and, of course, calms the bees during hive inspections or honey harvesting. It is a natural material, and its daily use is entirely safe for bees. The charges ignite easily and produce smoke without cinder.
Mugwort in the Fight Against Nosema apis
The Nosema apis and caraneaea is a parasitic fungus that vegetates in the cytoplasm of the host. It causes the most widespread and common diarrhea disease in adult bees called nosemosis. Problems with nosemosis occur from spring to summer. There is no effective preparation for treating nosemosis in the Czech Republic. The preparation Fumagilin, an antibiotic that appeared in honey, was previously used. Therefore, it was discontinued.
Mugwort was traditionally used by people as a laxative and remedy against parasites, gradually becoming a "universal remedy for all diseases" due to its therapeutic effects. Approximately the same effects in treating Nosema were demonstrated after using Mugwort as with Fumagilin. Since Mugwort is natural, it leaves no negative trace in honey or on bees.
